Rendlesham Revealed Celebration Event 2022

This event is a celebration of all the hard work and dedication carried out by our volunteers and project partners, who have achieved so much for the Rendlesham Revealed project over the past year.

Join us to find out more about the project, the results for the 2021 fieldwork, as well as how to get involved and volunteer in 2022.

What to expect

Short Talks from the Team

Informal short talks with updates on the fieldwork will take place throughout the day. These will take place in the morning and repeated again in the afternoon.

11:30am and 1:30pm - Rendlesham so far by Faye Minter (Archives and Projects Manager, Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service)

11:45am and 1:45pm - 2021 Excavations by Professor Christopher Scull (Honorary Visiting Professor at University College London and Cardiff University)

12:05pm and 2:05pm - Fieldwalking at Rendlesham by Professor Tom Williamson (Landscape historian and Professor of Landscape History, University of East Anglia)

These short informal talks will take place in the morning and be repeated in the afternoon.

Displays and Stalls

We will be joined by the experts involved with the Rendlesham fieldwork, with displays about the fieldwalking, geophysical survey and palaeoenvironmental survey.

Cotswold Archaeology will display the results from the 2021 excavations, and you will get up close to some of the excavated artefacts which are over 1,400 years old.

Come and meet our Suffolk Finds Recording Team, who will be on-hand to answer any questions about Suffolk artefacts and will be bringing the handling collection. If you have recently found any archaeological objects, they can also help identify them for you.

Facilities

Refreshments: Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day.

Toilets: there are multiple toilets available at the venue

Disabled Access: the Corn Exchange entrance on King Street is street-level. A member of staff will be on hand to direct you to a lift to access the Grand Hall.

Covid-19 Prevention Measures:

Covid-19 prevention measures will be in place to protect yourself and others, we ask that you follow these if you can. We will monitor the covid-19 situation and update these measures as needed.

Stay home if you feel at all unwell
Take a rapid lateral flow test if you can
Wear a face covering unless exempt
Wash your hands regularly and use the hand sanitiser provided

The Corn Exchange is easy to find, located in the Ipswich town centre and with plenty of parking nearby.

By Train

Ipswich's train station is a 15 minute walk to the Corn Exchange. Trains connect at Ipswich from Lowestoft (via Wickham Market and Woodbridge), Cambridge (via Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket), Felixtowe, Peterborough, Norwich and London.
