Listed Building: THORPE HALL FARMHOUSE (285477)

HASKETON GRUNDISBURGH ROAD TM 25 SW (South side) 2/110 16/3/66 Thorpe Hall Farmhouse (formerly listed as Thorpe Hall) II House, formerly farmhouse. C17 with early-C19 facing. Timber framed with colourwashed render and red and white Flemish bond skin with C19 additions in yellow brick and having a slate roof. Two storeys, L-shaped plan. Entrance front: projecting bay with a hipped roof at right which has a recessed central panel holding the windows which are each of 2 x 2 panes to the ground and first floors with an ashlar band at the level of the sills of the first floor windows. The left hand side of the projecting wing has blank panels to the ground and first floor with splayed heads. To the left of this are 3 bays, the central of which has a door with splayed, cambered head of 6 panels, the lower two recessed and the upper two glazed, the central 2 recessed and with diamond-shaped panels inset. Before the porch at either side are etiolated Roman Doric columns supporting the flat-roofed porch which has a plain entablature. To either side are arched single- light windows of mid-C19 date. To the first floor above this is a mid-C19 bull's-eye window with an ashlar surround. To left of this is a mid-C19 canted bay window with a sash window of 2x2 panes to the front and single- light sashes to the angles. This has an egg-and-dart frieze above the ground floor windows. To right at ground floor level is a further added mid-C19 rectangular bay window which has 2 sash windows divided by a king mullion to the ground floor with splayed heads and egg and dart frieze below the parapet which has a moulded saddle-back panel coping. To the first floor within a recessed panel is a sash window of 2x2 panes. Slightly recessed and at right is a colourwashed, rendered wing (single storey with attic) which has a C20 two-light window to the ground floor and an outshut of early-C20 brick at right. Left hand side of the house has 2 bays with a bow window to the ground floor at right with C20 windows and C20 wrought iron balustrade above. To first floor above this is a 2-light casement. An ashlar band divides the ground and first floors and continues across the left hand canted 2-storey mid-C19 bay which has a plinth of red brick, central sash window of 2x2 panes and windows to the angles of lx2 panes. Frieze of egg and dart above the ground floor windows. Similar windows to the first floor and a panelled cornice below the eaves. Rear: of red brick. At right is a projecting wing of C19 date. French windows to the ground floor and there is a blank panel at first floor level above this. In the re-entrant angle between this wing and the refaced C17 range is a staircase turret which has a window of 2x2 panes to the ground floor and a 2-light mezzanine window to the first floor with an arched head. To left of this is, at ground floor level at right, an outshut which has a C20 door of 6 raised and fielded panels and at left a window of 6x4 panes. To the first floor are 3 sash windows of 3x2 panes. To the ground floor at left of the outshut a window of 3x2 panes with a cambered head and to far left a lean-to outshut with hipped roof. Interior: two ceilings with chamfered beams and plain joists to the ground floor and one raised ceiling also with chamfered beams and some renewed joists. To the first floor is a room with close-studded walling and a blocked window with four-centered arch to the hearth. Cambered collar beams to the roof. Listing NGR: TM2353050130
