C16 or early C17 chimney stack with massive bressumer which has a chamfered lower edge and cambered top. Similar ceiling to the room beyond the stack. The third ground floor room was originally divided into two service rooms, as mortice holes in an axial ceiling beam show, each having a door through from the hall, the right hand one now being blocked. Close studded walling and one blocked window. To the first floor are jowled wall posts, blocked windows with diamond-section mullions and cambered tie beams to the dividing walls. Within the roof space are chamfered crown posts with arch braces that connect longitudinally to the collar purlin, collars and common rafters all having long, uncut pegs and no soot blackening. The wall plate at first floor level has edge-halved scarf joints with square, vertical butts which appear to be of the same date as the building. Listing NGR: TM2413948575
