Description

TM 36 SW FRAMLINGHAM SAXMUNDHAM ROAD (OFF) 3/118 Rookery Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Late C16 and C17. L-shaped form: 2½ storeys to main range; 2 storeys to wing. Timber-framed and rendered; white brick to the south gable; red brick to the north gable; colour-washed brick face to wing; C20 plaintiles. An internal chimney-stack with a large plain shaft of Tudor brick. The main range has 3 irregularly-spaced 2-light small-paned casement windows in flush frames to each storey, and a 4-panelled half-glazed door with a small gabled porch roof over. On the rear wall, a door abutting on the stack with the date 1778, and a small porch above. To the left of the stack a 2-bay room, with main cross-beams exposed, has been partitioned up, perhaps at the time of the dated doorway; the beams are chamfered, and have stops with bar. To the other side of the stack, a one-bay room with a main beam similarly treated. One open fireplace with its original timber lintel. The wing is now entirely a service area, but one 2-bay room at the east end is late C16, and seems to antedate the front range. Listing NGR: TM3044063250
