FRAMLINGHAM, SAXTEAD ROAD (OFF) Rose Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Circa 1600. 2 storeys; 3-cell internal chimney and cross-entry plan. Timber-framed and rendered; roof of concrete plaintiles; a large plain red brick shaft to the internal chimney-stack. 3-light old casement windows with 2 horizontal bars to lights on the ground storey, and one on the upper storey. Two C20 plank doors. The original layout survives on the ground storey: exposed timbers, some replacement of studding, but parts of the original still remain, with the sills set very high. The main posts in the parlour have shaped heads; chamfered main beams to ceiling and unchamfered joists set flat. A 4-light diamond-mullioned window in the rear wall. The 2 back-to-back hearths have plain timber lintels. A newel stair remains beside the chimney-stack. The service area seems not to have been divided into 2. The main entry is still in the position of one of the cross-entry doorways. A C20 wing added at the rear is not included in the listing.
