Description

TM 46 NW MIDDLETON MIDDLETON MOOR 6/85 Moor Farmhouse 25.10.51 II* Farmhouse. Early C16; brick south gable added mid C16 when part of the house was raised; mid C20 extension to rear. Timber framed and plastered, red brick gable ends, brick casing to ground floor of facade; roof of modern concrete pantiles. 2 storeys and attic. 3 window range, mid C20 casements with square leaded panes; mid C20 lean-to porch and boarded door; 2 gabled dormers to rear. Very fine south gable: crowstepped, with square finials above the corbelled eaves; a pair of windows at ground and first floor levels (those to the first floor blocked); above each window is a short moulded brick band, and over each band is an unusual raised brick ornament comprising an upright oblong with three-quarter circles above and below; this is repeated 3 times above each window, altered slightly on the first floor; central recessed blank panel at attic level; stack with 3 detached octagonal flues with moulded bases, the caps missing. First floor bedroom to south has good brick fireplace with 4- centre arch; above is a very fine plaster overmantel, richly decorated with foliated and floral motifs and with Tudor roses in 2 spandrels; this room has ovolo-moulded joists in the ceiling.
