Listed Building: YEW TREE FARMHOUSE (285362)

The following building shall be added: TM 36 NW SWEFFLING 4/78 Yew Tree Farmhouse - II Farmhouse, now house. Late C16 with C17 extension to rear; extended to right c.1830 and remodelled to left at same date or slightly earlier. Timber-framed, of light scantling with straight diagonal bracing to rear; early C19 front of Flemish bond brick, with flint rubble left gable end; hipped plain old tile roof; early C19 brick ridge stacks and lateral stack to rear right. C16 house of 3-unit plan with probable former smoke bay to right of centre; late C17 rear wing making L-plan. 2 storeys; front of 2-window range to left and symmetrical 3-window range to right. Mid C20 bracketed-hood and pedimented doorways, latter to right having early C19 six-panelled door. Cambered gauged brick arches to right and flat gauged brick arches to left over 3-light transomed casements with iron opening lights, restored c.1984. Outshut to rear, formerly used as dairy, adjoins rear left wing. Interior: exposed timber framing, with arch bracing to tie beams mostly removed and butt purlin roof remodelled in early C19; rear wall has shutter grooves flanking ground and first-floor window openings, inclu- ding 6-light diamond-mullioned window. Room to left has chamfered bressummer over fireplace in rear wall; central room has stop-chamfered beams and joists and open fireplace with plain bressummer flanked by C18 cupboards with butterfly hinges; room to right has chamfered beam heightened in early C19 and late C18 panelled door adjoining fireplace with neo-classical grate. C17 winder stair to rear of stack. Early C19 stick-baluster staircase. C17 plank doors and early C19 panelled doors. Late C17 rear wing has 4-light diamond-mullioned windows to rear, retaining C19 shutters to first floor, and collar truss with butt purlins. Listing NGR: TM3373565169
