Description

TM 36 NW BADINGHAM BRUISYARD ROAD 4/1 Oakenhill Hall 25.10.51. - II* Former manor house. A stone tablet on the north gable end is inscribed 'BONA VERBA QVAESO ANNO DNI 1552'; possibly earlier core. Single storey extension to south east added 1937. Main range with short cross wign at south end: this cross wing originally extended further to the west. Mainly red brick, with diaper work in dark headers to the north gable and to the east of the main range; a small part is timber framed and plastered; stone dressings to plinth; plaintiled roof. 3 stores to main range. Various casement windows, mainly C19 and C20, with modern diamond leaded glass; boarded entrance door to east of main range. The north gable end survives substantially intact: it is crowstepped, with obtagonal buttresses surmounted by pinnacles with stone caps; at second floor level is a pair of 2-light stone windows with enriched hood moulds and pediments over; at the apex of the gable is a pair of detached octagonal flues with moulded bases and caps. Interior considerably altered; the main hall has exposed joisting and there is some exposed framing on the first floor, including a 4-centre arched doorhead. Listing NGR: TM3077766437
