Description

WENHASTON MELLS TM 37 NE 1/117 The Grange (previously 25.10.51 listed as Wenhaston Grange) II* Farmhouse. C16 with early C18 facade and gable end. L shape plan. Timber framed, plastered to left hand gable and to rear, red brick facade and right hand gable; roof of mid C20 plaintiles. 2 storeys and attic. Fine facade: brick bands at first floor and eaves level, flat parapet; 8 window range, sashes with glazing bars in flush frames, flat brick arches; asymmetrical doorway with 6-panel fielded door, convex frieze and segmental pediment. The internal stack has 4 very fine detached circular flues with elaborate moulded brick decoration to shafts and original star caps; 3 of the flues are in line and the fourth to the rear on a corbelled base. Dutch gable to right hand side with brick bands at first floor and eaves level. 2 leaded cross windows to rear. Main range with early C18 panelling and fireplace surrounds. The 3 early C18 pedimented dormer windows were removed in the 1960's. Listing NGR: TM3871375801
