Description

TM 26 SE FRAMLINGHAM BRABLING GREEN 2/13 White House Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Mid C16. 2 storeys and attics; 3-cell plan. Timber-framed, plastered and lined; red brick gable on west; on the east, a single storey red brick bay with a moulded plaster cornice extending from the gable wall. An internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft. Various casement and sash windows. C20 porch and door. Timbers exposed inside: basic 5-bay internal chimney and cross-entry form, altered, probably in the later C17, by the extension of the service end of the house. The parlour, at the east end, has ogee-moulded joists, a fireplace with arched brick surround, and evidence for diamond mullioned windows. The 2-bay hall has similar moulded joists with a plain chamfered main beam. It has been suggested that the joists are reused, but in spite of some slight discrepancies they do seem to fit their present positions. The service-end partition, somewhat fragmentary, is still in position, with evidence for 2 doorways, but the cross-entry has been shifted over into the enlarged service area, which also contains a straight flight of stairs with solid treads across the width of the house. The upper floor has the remains of several more blocked diamond mullioned windows, shaped post-heads with arched braces removed, and reversed braces at the angles. An original fireplace in the room above the parlour. Side purlin roof. Listing NGR: TM2930364613
