Description

CLOPTON GRUNDISBURGH ROAD TM 25 SW (East Side) 8/17 Peartree Farmhouse - II House, formerly farmhouse. Late C16. Timber framed with a plaintile roof. Two storeys with attic. Three-cell plan with screens passage and ground floor hall. Entrance front: all C19 fenestration. Projecting wing at right with a lean-to outshut to its left-hand side and at left of this a 6- panel door with 4 lower flush and 2 upper glazed panels having a gabled C19 porch supported on brackets. To right of this one 3-light ground floor casement and to left a single-light bay window with lean-to roof and at far left a 2-light C20 casement. Three 2-light casements to the first floor. Single-flue ridge stack at right and an axial stack at left of 2 flues with moulded string to the base and fillet pieces to the sides. Left hand gable end: lean-to at ground floor level with a C20 three-light casement. Two- light casement to the first floor. Rear: projecting gabled wing at left with a 2-light C19 casement to ground floor and a 2-light C20 casement to first floor. In the re-entrant angle between this and the axial range is a lean-to porch probably of C17 date with close-studded walling and a decorated bressumer which is probably a C19 insertion having ribs and lambs-tongue end stops. To right is a ground floor oriel of 2 lights with lean-to roof. Above this at first floor level is a 2-light casement. Interior: screens passage with screens to either side having moulded muntins and continuous cross rails. The hall has been divided lengthwise by a further side screen to form the drawing room and a passageway. The drawing room has further panelling of C18 date of painted pine having raised and fielded panels with fluted pilasters either attached to or carved into the body of wall posts and having bracketed jowls which support a C16 chamfered ceiling beam. Bolection moulded fire surround. Raised and fielded overmantel panel with fluted pilasters at either side. Chamfered ceiling beams and close-studded walling to the other ground floor rooms. Timber framed dairy addition. Winder staircase to first floor which continues to the attics. Close studded walling and chamfered ceiling beams at first floor level. Staggered purlins to the roof which has one truss with queen posts. Listing NGR: TM2160553364
