Description

CHARSFIELD HALL ROAD TM 25 NW 4/7 Charsfield Hall 16/3/66 - II House. C16 and C17. Timber framed with colourwashed render and a plain tiled roof. Two storeys, originally 2 storeys with attic. Entrance front: projecting gabled wing at far right with a 3-light ground floor window (originally of 4 lights) a 3-light first floor and single-light attic casement, all C20. Recessed and at left is a range with a ground floor C19 plank door to far right. Further C18 or C19 door at left of centre with 6 raised and fielded panels, pilaster strips at either side and with a gabled open porch in front with octagonal piers. C19 and C20 fenestration to this front. Deep brick plinth and slightly projecting brick walling at left. Three 4-light ground floor casements, all of different form and to the first floor a 5-light, three 4-light and two single-light casements. Ridge stack at right of 2 axial flues and single flue at left of centre, below the ridge and further stack to gable end at left with 3 diamond-shaped flues. The left hand gable end has two doorways at ground floor level, that at right C20 and semi-glazed that at left a plank door. One 3-light casement at first floor right and 2 single-light casements to the attic. The right hand gable end has brick walling at left, 2 glazed C20 doors at right with cement lintels and to the first floor two 3-light casements and a 2-light casement to the attic. Rear: portion of English bond brick walling to far right. Slightly to right of centre is a projecting staircase bay with a catslide roof and immediately to right of this a C20 set of French windows with fluted pilaster pieces at either side. Four-light window to left of the staircase turret with French windows to the centre. The turret has a 3-light ground floor window and at right are two paired casements divided by a king mullion and at left is a 2-light casement. Three 3-light casements to the first floor and one lower 3-light casement. Four-light casement to staircase turret. Two-light C16 window originally lighting the attic at left with chamfered mullion. Interior: raised ceilings to ground and first floors, with chamfered ceiling beams. Wall posts and close studding and decorative jowling to the wall posts at ground floor level. Early C20 staircase with corinthian column newels and barley-sugar twisted balusters with a heavily ramped handrail brought from elsewhere. Listing NGR: TM2364056426
