Description

PETTISTREE THE STREET TM 25 SE (North side) 9/123 16/3/66 Church Farmhouse GV II Farmhouse, at one time subdivided into 3 cottages but now restored to one dwelling. Later C16 or C17 with mid-C19 facing. Timber framed with colourwashed render and a plaintile roof, originally thatched. Two storeys with attic. Three-cell, baffle-entry plan. Entrance front: plank doors to far right and far left with a half-glazed doorway at left of centre, now blocked up. In front of each door is a gabled porch supported by moulded brackets attached to wallposts with decoratively pierced bargeboards. Three 3-light casements to the ground floor and 3 similar windows to the first floor. To left of centre is a gable with a 2-light attic window and decorative bargeboards. To the ridge at right of centre is a rectangular chimney stack with 2 octagonal flues and to the left hand gable end is a similar stack. Left hand gable end: Flemish bond walling with central stack with offsets and diapered diamond patterns in black brick at either side of it. Two attic windows with cambered heads and decorative bargeboards to the gable. Right hand gable end: 3-light ground floor window, a 3-light first floor and a 2-light attic window. Attached at right is a lean-to outshut of brick with a 3-light window. Rear: mostly masked by a C20 outshut with a pantile roof and random fenestration. Interior: Chamfered ceiling beams with end stops supported by jowled wall posts with ogee mouldings. Chamfered joists with run-out end stops. Brick fireplace to the hall with chamfered bressumer and coved at its top to support the first floor hearth. Close studding to the walls. Winder staircase leading up from the lobby to the first floor and on to the attic. The first floor shows close studded walling with reversed arch bracing and one 2-light window with chamfered mullions. Thin, deep collars with common rafters showing to the attic.
