Description
METTINGHAM BECCLES ROAD TM 39 SE 1/17 The Red House (formerly listed as Mettingham House) 1-9-53 - II House. Early C18 with late C18 addition to right and C19 range to rear. Red brick; pantiled roof with glazed black tiles to the front. 2 storeys, the original range with an attic storey. 5 windows, sashes with glazing bars in flush frames under flat brick arches. Scalloped blind boxes to all windows. C20 flat-roofed brick porch; wide plank door with cover battens, in 2 leaves. Wooden modillion cornice above first floor. The attic storey has 3 casement windows. Gable stacks. 2-bay right hand addition, slightly set back, with matching windows and the modillion cornice continued across at eaves level. The principal room in this addition has plaster wall panels, an enriched ceiling border and a carved marble fireplace.
