Description

ELLOUGH HULVER ROAD TM 48 NE 6/12 Marsh Farmhouse 1-9-53 - II Farmhouse. Mid C16 with later alterations and various rear additions, including one of C17. Timber-framed with original crowstepped gable end to left, the remainder largely cased in C19 red brick. Pantiled roof with glazed black tiles to the front slope. 2 storeys and attic. 3 cell form. 4 windows, C19 and C20 mullion and transom casements without glazing bars; cambered brick arches. 6-panel entrance door, the upper 2 panels glazed. Internal stack with moulded brick base. The crowstepped gable has 2 brick bands and an integral stack. The hall has a good moulded beam and joist ceiling together with a moulded cornice (missing along the front wall); the moulding is continued down the surviving rear wall post. Some studding is exposed in the rear wall, with one original window with cavetto-moulded mullions and the remains of another, both at first floor level. The hall and parlour fireplaces incorporate some re-used stone work, the parlour fireplace restored mid C20. Newel stairs. The roof has 2 rows of butt purlins and cranked wind-bracing.
