Description

ILKETSHALL ST. ANDREW BECK'S GREEN TM 38 SE 3/2 - Manor Farmhouse (formerly listed as Manor House) 1.9.53 II Farmhouse. C16 and early C17. 2 storeys and attics to main range; a 2-storey service wing at the south-east end. Timber-framed and rendered; black glazed pantiles to the front slope of the roof, clay pantiles to the rear. An internal chimney stack has a large plain red brick shaft. A fine brick gable- end on the north-east has octagonal corner turrets with the pinnacles missing, 2 moulded string courses, and 2 3-light ovolo-moulded mullioned windows to each storey, all blocked. The associated chimney stack has the truncated remains of octagonal shafts, and a blank recessed panel below them. A full height gabled porch on the front, and a lean-to extension on the back for a later stair. 2-light and 3-light casement windows with a single horizontal bar to lights. Inside the main range, the main beams and joists on the ground floor are ovolo-moulded and have stepped stops with bar; moulded post-heads. On the upper floor there is evidence that the whole roof has been raised. It has one row of clasped purlins and one row of unstepped butt purlins.
