LOWESTOFT TM59SW DELL COURT 914-1/3/5 No.67 02/11/87 Dell Court House including garden wall to NE (Formerly Listed as: DELL ROAD WEST No.67) II Formerly known as: No.67 Dell Court DELL ROAD. Farmhouse. Mid C17, re-built C18 (dated 1775). Red brick laid in Flemish bond with burnt headers. Roof of black-glazed pantiles to the main (east) front, otherwise red pantiles. 2 storeys and dormer attic. 4 irregular bays, irregular because the C17 disposition of rooms was retained inside. A square C20 brick porch is set to the extreme right, and a second entrance is in the second bay (from the left): C20 half-glazed door under a segmental arch. The fenestration is of late C19 3-light cross casements with leaded glazing and metal opening leafs, those to the ground floor under segmental arches. The second bay first-floor casement has only 2 lights. Dentil eaves cornice. Over the left-hand door is the exposed end of a tie beam inscribed GSE 1775. Gabled roof with a central gabled dormer lit through a 2-light leaded casement. External south stack. Ridge stack right of centre. The south gable is rendered, the north has some tumbling. The rear also has a dentil eaves cornice. The ground floor is mostly obscured by a C19 single-storey outshut to the right and a gabled extension running west from the north end. The outshut has a central C20 glazed door flanked by a 2-light metal casement left and a 3-light cross casement right. Against the outshut's south end is a lean-to C20 conservatory. The main wall of the house is lit through two 2-light casements at the first floor. Two gabled dormers and a stack emerging through the roof to the left. The C18 gabled extension was free-standing when built. One storey and dormer attic. C20 brick steps lead up to a plank door under a prominent through-eaves gable. A single-light C19 casement is set to the left, and a 4-light casement to the right, also C19. In the angle with the house is a C20 glazed door. The north side has a full-length outshut with mixed C19 and C20 casements which runs flush to the porch outshut constructed against the north gable wall of the main house. INTERIOR. Although the house is now mainly late C20 in character, some details remain. There is a plain bridging beam in the kitchen (at the north end) and a C17 three-plank door leading from this into the scullery. In the north-west corner is a dairy with its bench over arches. The centre room has chamfered bridging beams with tongue stops and a re-built fireplace under plain panelling. Right and left are cupboards with butterfly hinges. The staircase hall is next south, the stairs themselves being early C20. A heavy wall plate separates this from the final south room. The roof sturucture is only visible to the north end: C19 rafters and through purlins. The INTERIOR of the gabled outbuilding shows a timber-framed east wall stopping short of the present house. The roof is of principals, 2 tiers of staggered butt purlins and collars. A late C18 brick wall of random bond and patches of flint runs east of the north-east corner of the main house to terminate in gate piers. It has rounded coping bricks. Listing NGR: TM5241692206
