Description

ILKETSHALL ST. ANDREW TOOK'S COMMON TM 38 NE 2/15 - Moat Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Late C16, with a later C17 extension. 2 storeys; attic to part. Timber-framed and plastered, faced in colour-washed brick; clay pantiles. An end chimney-stack on the right set within the frame, and an extension at a lower level beyond it. Various C20 cross windows. Entrance door with 6 sunk panels, the top 2 glazed. Inside, the present partitions and the position of the stair bear no relation to the bay divisions of the frame. On the left of the entry, one ground floor room has an exposed ceiling with heavy, closely- set flat joists and a main beam with 3 1/2" chamfer and pyramid stops. The upper ceilings in the older part of the house are original, also with joists set flat. The roof is in short bays, with 2 rows of butt purlins, cambered collars and a deep, narrow ridge-piece. The moat which gives the farm its name has been completely filled in since the last War. Listing NGR: TM3826087162
