Description

UGGESHALL TM 48 SE 4/67 Uggeshall House GV II Former rectory, now private residence. Early C18: at the rear (north west), now inside a later addition, is a brick inscribed 'I. Ewen' together with an early C18 date, now partly missing. L shape plan with various later additions. Red brick; the 2 main facades have a rendered torus-moulded plinth and there is a continuous plaster coved eaves cornice. Hipped plaintiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. Symmetrical main facade, facing south east: 5 windows, sashes with glazing bars in flush frames under flat brick arches. Doorway with eared architrave, convex frieze and pedimented cornice; C18 half- glazed door with 2 lower raised and fielded panels. 3 flat-roofed sashed dormers. The left hand return front is asymmetrical: 4 windows, sashes as main facade, but with 2 tall windows reaching to ground level on the right and a broader window on the left. Glazed entrance door. 2 dormers and an internal stack. Behind the front range is a mid-late C19 addition with a 2- storey 3-light canted bay facing the churchyard. Original closed-string stairs with turned balusters (2 flights); many original 2-panel internal doors. Listing NGR: TM4551780339
