Description

TM 38 SE RUMBURGH GENERAL 2/3 Pear Tree Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Mid C16, with older fragments. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and roughcast; black glazed pantiles. Now an internal chimney and cross-entry form; the stack has a plain red brick shaft rebuilt in Tudor bricks with a corbelled top. Old 2-light and 3-light casement windows, those on the ground floor with transomes. 2 doors under matching C19 gabled porch roofs. To the left of the stack the upper window is at a lower level than the others on the upper floor: this part of the house had a lower original wallplate, raised when the rest of the house was built, and is probably medieval, although most of the timbers have been renewed. The remainder of the house, consisting of a 2-bay hall and 2 service rooms, with a cross-entry between, has very good timbering: an enormous chamfered main beam has curved stops with bar; chamfered and stopped joists; damaged roll-moulding on post-heads. One original service doorway remains, square-headed, with chamfered jambs. A C17 2-bay kitchen extension behind the cross entry. Listing NGR: TM3648281950
