Description
ILKETSHALL ST. ANDREW BECK'S GREEN TM 38 SE 3/3 Little Beck Farmhouse
GV II Former farmhouse. Early C16, altered and extended in C18, C19 and C20. Part 2 storeys, part 2 storeys and attics: main range and cross-wing. Timber- framed main range, rendered, and faced in Edwardian mock-timbering; black glazed pantiles; a brick extension of c.1980 at the north end. C19 cross-wing in whitewashed brick. A large internal chimney-stack to the main range in Tudor brick: the 2-tier base has a small recessed blank panel, and the wide shaft has unusual shaped ends. C20 3-light mullion-and-transome type windows to main range; casements with segmental arched openings to the cross-wing. An enclosed and gabled brick and mock timber porch on the front, and a 2-storey mock timber porch on the back with an open ground floor, both Edwardian. To the right of the stack are the oldest 3 bays in the building: on the upper floor, cambered tie-beams and the remains of long arched braces of 2 open trusses, most probably to a large upper room; on the ground floor a main beam with 4" chamfer and broach stops. These features seem contemporary with the stack. The wall-plate has been doubled, and the remainder of the range, to the left of the stack, is an C18 extension. The chimney-stack has been tunnelled through to insert a straight stair. Roof with stepped butt purlins. The remainder of the interior contains no features of interest.
