Description

TM14 SW BELSTEAD 2/2 Barn at Belstead Hall II Barn. Circa 1600 and later. Originally close studded timber frame, partly encased in or underpinned in brick, some in English bond, some C19 Flemish bond. Some weatherboarding, brick nogged south gable, plaintile roof. Later timber framed and weatherboarded lean to with pantile roofs. 2 & 3 storeys encorporating stables, living quarter and lofts. East face. Varied openings. 4 sets stable and barn doors. 3 1st floor openings with strap hinges and boarded doors. South gable horizontal brick nogging. Decorative braces above bressumer. Timber latticed window with shaped head in apex below collar. Interior: At either end heavy bridging beams with bar stops and flat joists. Wooden mangers at south end. In between, later floor to 2 storey hay loft, separated from stable by closed truss. The beams and bridging beams supported by knees, some of natural Y-shaped timbers. 2 tier butt purlin roof, some cranked wind braces on both sides. Listing NGR: TM1270541312
