Description
1975: Twelve feet wide single span bridge of four courses, built of 'Tudor' bricks. Lies to the S of a later bridge at a point where the Icknield Way crosses a small stream. A certain amount of consolidation work is urgently required, particularly to the brick coursing on the S side. 1981: Bridge in bad repair, top covered in moss. Brick coursing on S side particularly in need of consolidation. Evidence of bricks falling into stream below.
1986: Bridge as described above with four courses of brickwork topped by mortared flints, presumably the former road metal. S face deteriorating rapidly, with some bricks badly eroded and others completely missing. Repair in this century or the last represented by a few well-weathered, larger bricks. A few bricks also missing from more sheltered, better-preserved, N face. Stream dry at time of visit.
