Description

THORPE MORIEUX POTASH FARMHOUSE TL 95 SW 32/960 II Farmhouse. C16 and mid-late C17. Timber framed and plastered, clay plain-tiled roof, brick axial stack to main range and lateral stack to cross-wing. 3-cell form with projecting cross-wing to right. 2 storeys and attics. Windows mainly C18 3-light mullion and transom small-paned casements and 12-paned sashes. 2 small mullioned windows in side of cross-wing. Lobby entry: three quarter-glazed door; doorcase with fluted pilasters and flat hood on carved console brackets, all probably added mid C20. Internal stack with plain C19 shaft set just behind the ridge. A further stack, probably C19, against outer wall of cross-wing, at the foot of which are 2 lean-to additions. Interior: 2-bay cross-wing has some C16 exposed framing, plain -ceiling joists and a clasped-purlin roof. Hall has a higher ceiling with axial main beam and chamfered joists with lamb's tongue stops. Several C18 features including 2-panel doors, duck's nest grate (hall chamber) and balustrading to newel stair in a lattice design. The attic over the parlour chamber has remains of a lath and daub floor. Clasped purlin roof with a ridge piece, probably C17. Listing NGR: TL9301852968
