Description

ELMSETT TM 04 NW MANOR ROAD (South side) 966- /38/10010 Rookery Farmhouse II House. c.1500 and c.1840-50. The earlier range is rendered and colour-washed timber-frame with plain-tile roof and the later, front, range is red brick with Welsh slate roof Brickridge stacks. 2 storeys; 3-window range of 6/6 sashes with central casement over part-glazed 5-panel door and 3-pane overlight. Rising from a plinth are pilaster strips either side the door and at the corners and these continue on light side where there are further 6/6 sashes, and C20 3-light casement and door. The rear range consists of main range and jettied cross-wing to right and has 2- and 3-light casements and 4/8 sashes. INTERIOR. Front range has stick-baluster open-well staircase. Rear range has heavy bridging beams and joists in kitchen area with a massive arched brace. Jowled and braced wall posts on first floor. There is close studding visible in wing on both floors with cranked tie beam on first floor where former arched braces have been cut away. One door of probably early C17 square panelling. Earlier range has crown-post roof to wing with curved braces from crown posts to crown plate and clasped purlin roof in main range with curved windbraces and coupled rafters.
