Description

TL 77 SW TUDDENHAM THE GREEN 4/52 Nether Hall - (formerly listed as Netherhall 7/5/54 Farmhouse) - II House. Formerly famhouse. C16 with alterations of C17; restored c,1980. A 2-cell hall range with later cross-wing to left. 2 storeys and attics. Timber-framed and plastered. The cross-wing has close-studded framing exposed. Plaintiled side-purlin roofs with central C17 chimneys of red brick to both hall range and cross-wing; saw-tooth pattern flues on a rectangular base. Mainly 3-light casements of c.1980, with leaded lights, and boarded and battened entrance door. The walls of the hall range were raised in C17 or C18, to give 2 full storeys. A 1st floor fireplace in the cross-wing has part of a C17 wall painting of intricate but faded multicoloured designs; possibly an achievement. Another chamber fireplace of c.1600 has moulded plasterwork to the head and jambs. A staircase of c.1600 has pierced splat balusters, moulded handrails and heavily carved newel posts. Very close studding and heavy 1st floor members to the hall range of mid C16. Listing NGR: TL7371471606
