Description

RECTORY LANE 1. 5377 Newton The Old Rectory TL 93 NW 11/748 II 2. A large house of C16-C17 origin partly timber-framed and plaster and partly faced in brick, colourwashed. The house was largely refaced or rebuilt in the C18 and C19. The original house appears to have been built on an L shaped plan with wings to the west and north and a later (C18) block built into the angle, with gables on the west and north. 2 storeys and attics. The windows generally are double-hung sashes with glazing bars and on the south and east fronts are C18 or early C19 splayed bays. Roofs tiled, with 2 original chimney stacks with 4 grouped octagonal shafts on square bases on the wing extending to the north and 1 original stack with 2 octagonal shafts with moulded caps and bases on the wing extending to the west.
