Description

ASHFIELD CUM THORPE TM 26 SW 5/2 Rose Farmhouse - II Former farmhouse. C15 or early C16 core, altered and enlarged later C16 to form a 2-cell house; C19 and mid C20 additions and renovation. Timber framed, the side walls faced in red brick, that to the front of C19 date. Pantiled roof. 2 storeys. 3 windows, mid C20 standard casements without glazing bars; flat soldier course arches. Lobby entrance with mid C20 gabled brick porch and plank door. Internal stack with rendered axial shaft. 3 mid C20 solar panels on front roof slope. C19 addition to left is rendered, with exposed timbers on upper floor. Interior. Left cell has fragmentary late medieval former open hall, the central truss with a flat arched-braced tie beam. Walls later raised by about one metre. Inserted floor has chamfered joists set flat. The bay nearer the stack is trimmed for a wide opening, perhaps for a timber chimney; the joists in the adjacent bay have large chamfers and may be of a different date. Right cell has good close studding; some original windows with diamond and chamfered mullions. Chamfered-joist ceilings on both floors. Roof not examined. Listing NGR: TM2126861842
