Description

FRESSINGFIELD METFIELD LANE TM 27 NE 6/49 Wakelyns Farmhouse -- II Manor farmhouse. C16. Timber framed with a late C19 red brick casing except for the rear wall which is plastered. Roof of glazed black pantiles. 2 storeys and attic. 3-cell form. 3 windows, large-paned casements; whitewashed flat arches. The right gable end has a gabled brick porch with half-glazed door. Internal stack. Internally most of the frame is concealed. The hall bridging beam and the girding beam against the cross-passage have unusual stop-chamfers in the form of raised arrowheads pointing towards the centre of the room. An original hall doorway with leaf-carved spandrels. In the rear wall a blocked cross-passage doorway with arched head. Newel stairs. The rafters have been altered but the main roof structure, with clasped purlins, is intact. Listing NGR: TM2874378909
