FRAMSDEN THE STREET TM 15 NE 4/55 No 133 - II House, built in 2 stages: a mid C16 open hall, and an early C17 parlour block. 1 storey with attics, and 2 storeys with attics. Timber-framed and plastered; the hall to right was partially rebuilt in C19 red brick, now painted. Thatched roof above hall, with one eyebrow casement dormer. Pantiled roof to parlour block: a gable was added in mid C19 to give the illusion of a crosswing. Axial chimney of red brick, the shaft rebuilt in C19 in the Helmingham Estate style. Various mainly C19 small-pane casements. Boarded entrance door with small gabled C20 porch. Modest and greatly altered open hall: at the open truss is a tie-beam with evidence for long arch-braces. Complete smoke-blackened coupled-rafter roof with unusually slender pole rafters. In early C17, the original service cell was demolished and a parlour block put in its place. This has chamfered floor-joists laid flat, close- studding with evidence for glazed windows, and clasped-purlin roof. Altered back-to-back open fireplaces, one lintel being ovolo-moulded; newel staircase in two flights. The hall was partitioned at the open truss and floored over, a new cross-entry (now blocked) being formed, and the right-hand bay becoming a service cell. Listing NGR: TM1960659555
