Description

ASHBOCKING TM 15 NE 4/1 Poplar Farmhouse II Farmhouse, formerly manor house. Late C16. 2 storeys and attics. 3-cell plan with 2 original crosswings. Timber-framed and pebble-dashed. Plaintiled roofs with a C19 axial chimney with 3 diagonally-set square shafts of red brick; a C18 external chimney to left-hand cross-wing. Mid C19 3-light small-pane casements, some having ransomes. C19 glazed panelled entrance door with open gabled plaintiled porch on posts. Chamfered floor-joists and some main framing members exposed. The parlour wing to right has had its 1st floor structure removed in C18/C19 to provide tall reception rooms; this range has an original queenpost roof (other roofs have 2 tiers of butt purlins).
