Public house, C15 with alterations of C17 and C19. In 2 sections: a long C15
cross-wing, gable-front to Chapel Lane; and a rebuilt C17 hall range reaching
to the junction of Main Road and Chapel Lane. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and
rough-cast; the wing has exposed tension-braced close-studwork, and has its
upper floor jettied on brackets. Plaintiled roofs; an axial C17 chimney of
red brick. Mainly C19 and early C20 casements. Boarded C20 Oak entrance door
at the cross-passage position. The C15 wing has heavy exposed framing with a
crown-post roof; the crown posts are rectangular with 2-way plank bracing.
The wing was extended to rear by 2 bays in C15 or early C16 (this section has
a pantiled coupled-rafter roof). Much remodelling including single-storey red
brick and pantiled extensions, in mid C19.
