Description

TL 96 NE HUNSTON THE STREET 2/88 The Old Cottage 15.11.54 -- II House, C16 with porch and remodelling of 1619. One storey and attics. 3-cell lobby-entrance plan. Timber framed: arch studbraced wall framing exposed externally in C20 with plaster infill panels. Thatched roof with eyebrow casement dormers. An axial C17 chimney of red brick. 2-light C18 casements with leaded lights, some replicated in mid C20. A fine 2-storey entrance porch, dated 1619. Timber-framed, plastered with exposed framing. The 1st storey is jettied on 3 sides, with exposed joist ends and billet-carved bressumers. The gable tie-beam is also jettied, carved with delicate cresting and in the centre is a panel with the date 1619. Drop finials of cage form at either corner and below ridge. Carved contemporary bargeboards. A shallow oriel window over the entrance, ovolo-moulded, with 5 lights above and below a transome; 3-light windows in side walls. Pair of mid C20 doors with 2 fielded panels. To right is an C18 single-bay extension. Listing NGR: TL9750468486
