Description

FRESSINGFIELD PRIORY ROAD TM 27 NE 6/54 Priory House -- II Farmhouse. A somewhat complex house in 4 sections: to the left a mid C16 hall and service range with early C17 parlour addition to the right; set forward of the parlour is a wing of C16 or earlier date; to the rear a small C17 dairy wing. Timber-framed, mainly roughcast-rendered, with a facade of red brick. Plaintiled and pantiled roofs, with old plaintiles to the front slope of the hall range. 1 1/2 and 2 storeys with attic to parlour range. Casement windows, mainly of C18 and C19; one mid C20 bowed window to ground floor. The hall range has a cross-passage entry with mid C20 glazed door. Stacks at each end of the hall range, the heavier one set against the parlour addition. Against the cross-passage is a screen of C17 oak panelling, evidently brought from elsewhere. Good quality framing is exposed in the hall range, which has a queen-post roof. Chamfered joists in hall. The 2-bay addition set forward of the parlour has been somewhat altered: there is a queen-post roof, with evidence of smoke-blackening to at least one bay. Listing NGR: TM2566276981
