Description

MONK SOHAM SCHOOL ROAD TM 26 NW 2/160 Primrose Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. C16. Timber framed and plastered, thatched roof. 3-cell form. 2 storeys and attic. Upper floor has a range of 4 late C19 2-light casement windows. Ground floor has 2 3-light mullion and transom casements with C20 square-leaded glass and to the left a slatted opening. Plank door; C20 gabled timber trellis porch, also thatched. Internal stack with original oblong shaft. To rear of service end is a one-storey colourwashed brick addition with pantiled roof; this has a stack with brick dated 1782. Interior: Some good studding, with evidence for diamond-mullioned windows on both floors. Gable end wall in service chamber has tension braces. Hall has axial bridging beam with large chamfer and closely-spaced plain joists. Part of this room has been incorporated into the service end and the original cross-partition on the ground floor is lost. Plain ceiling joists in parlour. Over the hall chamber is a slightly cambered tie beam with short arched braces to the wallposts. Later attic floor in parlour cell has chamfered joists. Oak newel stair extending to first floor only.
