GV II
Cartlodge, late C18 or early C19 with C17 core; a granary above. Two
drawthrough lanes, each 2 bays deep; and to right is an integral stable or
store one bay wide and 2 bays deep. Timber-framed, mainly weatherboarded,
partly plastered to right. Corrugated iron roof, once thatched. The front
opening has short curved archbraces at each post-head; the rear wall was
similar, but is now infilled by weatherboarded timber-framing. A central
bridging beam with archbracing supports the granary floor. Primary-braced oak
studding in side walls of C18 appearance, but main framing members are of C17
character. Compare Cartlodge, 40m south-west of Whitefield House (Item
No.1/20).
