Description

ONEHOUSE LOWER ROAD TM 05 NW 2/148 Barn, 60m east of Onehouse Hall 24.6.86 GV II Barn, early C16. Originally of 7 long bays; major remodelling of bays 6 and 7 at west end c.1600; a 2-bay neat-house (cow shed) or stable added to west in late C17. Timber-framed and weatherboarded. Aluminium sheeted roof, formerly thatched. Two sets of boarded barn doors, renewed late C20, in bays 3 and 6 (south side). The C16 structure is of good quality: massive close studding with long tension bracing, and a middle rail in the north wall only. Tie-beam braces all replaced by C19 knees. Altered, coupled-rafter roof. Circa 1600, extra trusses and a new windbraced clasped purlin roof were provided in bays 5,6 and 7, and the original roof, formerly hipped, was remodelled over the other bays. The neat-house has close studding and once had an upper floor; C20 casements. Listing NGR: TM0180059187
