Description

BARKING NEEDHAM MARKET ROAD TM 05 SE 2/41 Kennels Farmhouse 9.12.55 II Former farmhouse; c.1700 with later C18 extension, and alterations of mid C20. 4-cell main range of 1 storey with attics, 2 storey wing to front right. Timber-framed and plastered, the front elevation encased late C18 in red brick (now painted). Thatched roof with axial C18 chimney of red brick; a C20 eyebrow casement dormer. Late C18 mullioned and transomed wooden windows with small panes and segmental heads. Late C18 6-panelled entrance door in re- entrant angle of front wing; the lower panels are fielded, the upper pair glazed. The wing has a hipped plaintiled roof and C20 small-pane sashes. Typical C18 timber-framing exposed with reused large floor joists laid flat in some rooms, with slender on-edge joists in others. The later front wing reuses many C16 components including close-studding and floor joists laid flat, suggesting a C16 building totally reconstructed on the same site. Listing NGR: TM0872053504
