Part of District Council offices. Built late C18 as a house for S.A. Maw,
Quaker and banker. Red Brick. Hipped concrete plaintiled roof with wooden
moulded and dentilled cornice masking the gutter. External chimneys of red
brick. 3 storeys. 5 windows. Sash windows with flat arches of orange gauged
brick; some original small-pane sashes, others renewed C19 with large panes.
To left of entrance is a flat-roofed 1-storey bay of C19 with sash windows.
Good original entrance doorway approached by stone steps with wrought iron
railings. 6-panelled door (the lower panels fielded) deeply recessed within
ogee-arched panelled reveals. Above is a fanlight with intersecting tracery.
Portico with Roman Doric columns and pilasters, broken entablature, triangular
pediment and modillioned cornice.
