MENDLESHAM BROCKFORD ROAD TM 16 NW 7/34 Mendlesham Manor (formerly listed as 29.7.55 The Manor) -- II Former farmhouse. Late C16/early C17 front range, probably C16 wing to rear on right. Extensively restored and extended to rear early C20. Timber framed with much-renewed exposed studding. Plaintiled roof except outer slope of rear wing which is pantiled. 3-cell front range. 2 storeys and attic. Early C20 casement windows with square-leaded glass, those to centre cell flanked by ovolo-moulded mullioned windows, mostly original. Reproduction plank door in 4-centre arched opening with carved spandrels and mullioned overlight. One gabled 2-light dormer. 2 stacks against rear wall. Left gable end has early C20 bargeboards with vine trail carving. 2-storey rear wing has some glazed- over diamond-mullioned windows and an internal stack. Interior. Considerably altered. Room to right of entrance has a high chamfered-joist ceiling. The opposite room has fine complete early C18 panelling with a moulded cornice. Contemporary bolection-moulded fireplace with overpanel and flanking drops of fruit and flowers; corner cupboard with pierced keyed 3-centre arched head and pierced work to jambs. One arched stuccoed upper fireplace. Upper doorways have early C19 reeded surrounds. Rear wing has plain studding and ceiling joists. Several good C16-C17 doors, some with linenfold panels, and first floor panelled partitions, all brought from elsewhere in early C20. Formerly known as Park Farmhouse and in C19 as Homerfield Hall.
