Description
TM 07 SW WATTISFIELD HONEYPOT LANE
3/95 Pitts Farmhouse & The
Nook
GV II
Former farmhouse, extended and divided into 2. C16, in 2 phases. Timber-
framed and rendered; thatched roof. 2 storeys. An internal chimney-stack in
old red brick with 2 attached hexagonal shafts on a square base, and an end
chimney-stack on the left with a plain red brick shaft. Various 2-light and
3-light casement windows, some old, with a single horizontal bar to lights;
small-paned C20 standards to the ground floor, random arrangement. A C20
half-glazed entrance door in a lobby-entrance position, and another on the
left, where a small C20 single-storey pantiled extension partly replaces a
missing section of the older house. The internal stack marks the division
between the 2 building phases: the ridge of the roof is slightly higher to the
left. To the right of the stack, frame in 3 bays, with the end bay a much-
altered service room. The remaining 2 bays with an exceptionally heavy main
beam, hacked back; the original joists removed: replacement joists, set on
edge at a higher level, probably C18. The main posts have unusual shaped
heads. Fireplace with plain lintel. To the left of the internal stack, 3
bays, apparently originally forming a single room, now divided. Large chamfer
to main beams which are supported by short solid arched braces; heavy plain
joists, some replacements. End stack added against a former partition wall,
with indications that the frame extended for at least another bay. Ground
floor only examined.
