HINDERCLAY RICKINGHALL ROAD (NORTH TM 07 NW EAST SIDE) 1/46 Hinderclay Hall (formerly 15.11.54 listed as Hinderclay Hall, barn and stabling) GV II Wrongly shown on O.S. map as School Road. Farmhouse. C16 origins, extended and altered early to mid C17, extended and altered early C19, altered C20. Timber frame, plastered. Yellow stock brick additions. Hipped black glazed and red pantiled roofs. Original plan unclear but 2 and 3 cell early builds together form an L with a larger early C19 L shaped addition interlocking to form a large half H on plan. All 2 storeys. Early C19 entrance elevation in a parallel block added to front of earlier build, 4 broad bays: steps up to entrance to right of centre, recessed part raised, fielded 6 panelled door, fluted half-round architrave with angle roundels, modillioned cornice, rectangular fanlight traceried with an arch, gauged brick flat arched head; recessed C20 sashes with stone sills, gauged brick flat arched heads, modillioned eaves cornice. Central ridge stack, right end external stack with offsets. Left return is early C19 garden front of 3 bays: central part raised, fielded 6 panelled door with a traceried semi-circular fanlight, gauged brick round arch with a relieving arch, sashes and cornice as to front, 2 cross axial ridge stacks to outer bays. Set back to rear is a further C19 bay, plastered with an internal gable end stack. Behind main block is 3 cell early range: C20 sashes, an axial ridge stack to left of centre, steeply pitched roof hipped down to C19 block to right and to lower ridge of reroofed earlier 2 cell range to left, 2 bays of C20 tripartite sashes, an early C17 stack to inner bay with 2 conjoined hexagonal shafts, open hipped slate roofed verandahs, lean-to's from gable end and outer side of 2 cell range. Interior: frame largely concealed, 3 cell range has a stop chamfered cross axial binding beam, 2 cell range has C16 close studding with mid-rail, mortice for a large arched brace to tie beam, an original chamfered doorway interrupted by a restored 5-light diamond mullioned window opening.
