Description

BARKING DARMSDEN TM 05 SE 2/37 Priestley Cottage - II Former farmhouse; c.1600 with C20 extensions. 2 cell lobby-entrance plan, perhaps originally with cross-passage. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and plastered. Concrete tile roof. C20 small-pane casements. Gabled C20 entrance porch with boarded door. Good complete unmoulded timber-framing fully exposed. The hall and parlour both have flat ceiling joists, chamfered with lambstongue stops. Evidence for diamond-mullioned windows. Wind-braced clasped-purlin roof; the open trusses are without tie-beams instead having collar-beams. In the hall the joist chamfers stop for a screen, apparently once forming a cross-passage against the gable wall; possibly there was once a service cell on the site of the present C20 extension to right. Back-to-back open lintelled fireplaces in parlour and hall, the latter with an ovolo- moulded lintel. Listing NGR: TM0840852460
