Barn. Formerly ecclesiastical building of unknown function
associated with Priory of St Peter (dissolved 1537). c1500,
used as house from mid C16 and barn from C18. Damaged by fire
c1920. Red brick and re-used ashlar, pantiled roof.
2 storeys. 5-window range. West face with English bond
brickwork. Blocked doorway right of centre with chamfered
jambs and a 4-centred head. Four 2-light chamfered brick
windows to ground floor, evenly spaced, and one later
square-headed opening left of centre. 4 single-light chamfered
brick lancets to first floor and one 2-light window as before.
Gabled roof. East flank of early C18 brick laid in English
bond. 4 ground-floor and 3 first-floor openings. Remains of
one first-floor arched window. North gable with re-used
ashlar. South gable formerly with one 2-light stone window to
each floor, removed late C20. Upper window jambs remain.
INTERIOR: re-roofed 1920s. Evidence of upper hall to south
end. Scheduled Ancient Monument, county number 199.
