Description
TM 07 SW WALSHAM LE WILLOWS CRANMER GREEN
3/38 Old Hall
II
Former farmhouse. C18 and C19. Red brick, colour-washed on front. Front
range in 2 sections: on left, 2 storeys and attics, old plaintiles, red brick
gable end on left incorporating a chimney-stack, long hip and gablet on right;
addition on right, 2 storeys, pantiled. 5 irregularly-spaced windows to each
storey across the whole front: 2-light casements with 2 horizontal bars to the
deep narrow lights and heavy Gothic-style hood-moulds. Entrance door with 2
leaves, glazed at the top; the 2 lower panels have applied mouldings and 4-
petalled flowers. Open gabled timber porch in Gothic style has an ogee arch
and pierced and fluted bargeboards. The gable-end on left has tumbling, plain
copings, and a plain band immediately below the corbels, 2 single-light attic
windows, and a plain stack with corbelled head. A similar stack is set
internally in line with the entrance. This, together with the curious long
hip on the right and the irregular spacing of the windows, implies an older
core to the house, but little is to be seen inside. A long 1½-storey mid-C19
rear range is in kidney flint and red brick with plaintiled roof; various
casement windows with segmental arches.
