Description

ASHFIELD CUM THORPE THORPE LANE TM 26 SW 5/11 Thorpe Hall 9/12/55 GV II Manor farmhouse. C16 or early C17 core with considerable C18 and early C19 alteration and enlargement. A long front range with short central gabled wing to rear. This wing is flanked by later additions roofed in parallel with front range. Mainly timber framed, nearly all faced in C19 red brick. Exposed studding in gable end to rear. One rear addition in rat-trap bond. Roof plaintiled at front, the remainder glazed black pantiled. 2 storeys. 5- bay facade, the centre bay set slightly forward and with no upper window. Early C19 casement windows with 3 ogee-headed lights; no glazing bars. Rendered wedge lintols. To left of centre is a late C19 one-storey canted bay: flat parapet with brick copings; mid C20 French windows and single-paned side windows, all under wedge lintols with raised keys. To right of centre is a one-storey brick porch: flat parapet as bay; 9-panel door, bolection-moulded architrave. Internal stack with plain C19 shaft. Splayed ground floor bay on right gable end. Interior. A little studding and some plain ceiling joists in rear wing, the timbers otherwise concealed. Early C19 straight stair with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail.
