- of Green Farmhouse
GV II
Cartlodge (converted to stable in C19); early C17. 4 bays. Timber-framed with
tarred vertical clap-boarding; the upper part of one gable wall has wattle and
daub infilling, probably added in C18. Corrugated iron roof, formerly
thatched; half-hipped at both ends. C19 boarded doors. The centre posts in
each side-wall have long straight braces up to the wallplates; and at the
corners are short braces up to the tie-beams. Complete 6-bay clasped-purlin
roof with long straight rafter braces rising from the corners. The collar at
the half-hip is supported by arch braces from the rafters; the space beneath
may originally have been open. A rare example in Suffolk of a complete C17
cartlodge.
