Description

METFIELD TM 28 SE 2/86 The Old Vicarage - ( formerly listed as 29.7.55 Old Vicarage Farmhouse) -- II House, formerly a farmhouse. C16 core with early C17 rear wing and C19 alterations and additions. Timber framed and plastered with a plaintiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 3-cell form. 5 windows, C19 casements; on the ground floor there are 3 sets of French windows and a half-glazed entrance door. Internal stack with 4 shafts grouped in sawtooth pattern. Gable stack to left. Between the 2 stacks is a hexagonal bell turret with slender columns supporting a leaded ogee roof surmounded by a wind vane. Victorianised interior with little of the original structure visible except at the service end where there are heavy plain joists. The roof over the main range is not the original.
