Description

YAXLEY IPSWICH ROAD (WEST SIDE) TM 17 SW 3/154 The Bull Inn 9.9.86 - II Public house. Late C16, part demolished and altered C19 and C20. Timber frame, part brick cased. 3 bays or 1½ cells, originally a larger building extending further to left. 2 storeys and attic. Former central entrance blocked, 2 and 4-light flush frame glazing bar casements, early C20 hipped tiled verandah on timber uprights across ground floor. Right gable end original external stack tapering to rear, now in a 1 storey addition, wavy bargeboards. Left gable end rebuilt, colourwashed Fletton bricks, an entrance towards front, C19 external stack with multiple offsets, attic 2-light glazing bar casement with segmental head, exposed C19 plates and purlins. To rear a ground floor continuous lean-to outshut, first floor 2 light glazing bar casements. Interior: altered exposed framing on ground floor, 2 bays to right are probably original parlour with complex double ovolo-moulded axial binding beam and mid-rails at ends, partition to left now removed, to left an ovolo moulded axial binding beam. First floor: stop chamfered binding beams, arched braces to tie beams, roof not inspected. Listing NGR: TM1154872479
