TL 96 NE NORTON THE STREET 2/119 The Rookery (formerly 15.11.54 listed as Rookery Farmhouse and barn) GV II Farmhouse; C17 main range with earlier range to right. 2 storeys. Main range of 2-cell lobby-entrance plan. Timber-framed and plastered: a little C18/C19 herringbone pargetting. Plaintiled roof: an C18 parapet gable of red brick, now internal to right. An axial C17 chimney of red brick, and another of C18 at gable, the shaft rebuilt in mid C20. Mid C19 sashes with large panes. Mid C19 gabled plaintiled entrance porch with half-glazed panelled door and panelled reveals. The range to right was formerly of 1½ storeys: in C19 walls were raised and a lower-pitched pantiled roof built. Attached to left along the street frontage is a single-storey C19 range once containing a butcher's shop: flint and painted brick with plastered end walls. Pantiled roof. Mid C19 shop window with cornice. To right of facade is a lean-to C19 extension of painted brick. Listing NGR: TL9613165754
